Your thoughts please...

Goal #7 is to read the novels of Charles Dickens. My question is: Do I re-read A Tale of Two Cities? I read it in college for a European History class and quite enjoyed it. Technically speaking, I finished it before my 30th birthday, but does it count since I hadn't yet made my list???

Things Change

Well I finally made the much-needed changes to THE LIST. After a year of having it, I realized that though meeting some of my goals would be cool, they just didn't seem on par with the rest of the things on THE LIST. So I've re-vamped and made two new goals. And they are........
#3. See the sun set over the ocean and #7. Read the novels of Charles Dickens
I've accomplished two of the goals already and with 5 more goals and 14 days shy of 5 years to complete the rest of them, I think it can happen!

Once upon a time, I went to Peru.

On 15 April, one of my best friends-Michelle Bergsjo "Bergs"-and I went to Peru. We were able to visit each of her mission areas, spend time touring Lima, eat delicious food, and have a great time all around. It was a truly unforgettable experience, especially when we viewed the grandeur of Machu Picchu. But most of all, it made me grateful to be a citizen of the United States!!!
I'd give a better description here but I've already journaled about it and let's face it, I'm a wee bit lazy. I hope the pictures will suffice.

Cha-cha-changes

I haven't really looked at or worked on anything on my list for some time. While it's in the back of my mind and I'm periodically reminded of it, it's just not something I think about. When I do look at it, I wonder just which parts of the list I'm actually going to accomplish. There are three things on there, in particular, that I think about changing from time to time. The first is "Meet Glenn Beck". I still think it would be really cool to meet Glenn, but I feel like my priorities in life and my focus has changed since I came up with my list just a little over a year ago. Last year I was a Glenn Beck nut. I rarely missed his show and read every one of his books. But something changed in me the last part of the year and I just stopped watching. I still think Glenn is a great person, that America needs people like him who are not afraid to speak out, and that it would be a neat experience to meet him. However, it just doesn't feel like something that should be on my list anymore.
The second is "Read a Biography on Every US President". I love history. Don't get me wrong--it's my passion and what I majored in in college, but for some reason this goal just seems so daunting and I can't even get excited about it. I don't know how many times I've tried to sit down and start a biography but it just doesn't appeal to me.
The third is "Get My Master's Degree." Again, at this point in time, this goal seems very daunting and I don't know if it will be accomplished. Things have changed so much in the short amount of time since I wrote my list that it makes me wonder if I'll be able to accomplish this before I'm 30.
I don't yet know what I'll replace these goals with, if I even do. I do know that it would be ok for me to change the list because I've pretty much made up the rules for this game anyway. Goals change as we change and sometimes we have to re-evaluate where we are headed and what we want to accomplish along the way.

Use My Passport

On Thursday 15 April I will be able to check off #4 on my list of 7 things. That's right ladies and gentlemen, I am set to fly out of the United States into that Land of the Incas known as Peru. I am soooooo excited. My friend Bergs has been planning to return to her mission area for a year now and had thrown the idea around about joining her. I toyed with it, decided I couldn't swing it, and finally told her no. Well, I guess telling her no was what changed my mind. I started thinking about it more and more, decided it was pretty much a once in a lifetime opportunity, and thought "why the heck not?". So, I went back on my word, told her I'd go and we've been planning ever since. Last Saturday night (the 6th) we purchased our tickets. They were a little bit more than we had hoped to spend but when we saw the deal we got (a great airline, one layover, no baggage fee for our first bag) we couldn't pass it up. We are one step closer to our vacations and we couldn't be more elated. We're just waiting for time to pass so we can actually start packing and get this show on the road!!!

George Strait

On Friday 17 July 2009, I accomplished number 5 on my list of 7 things. That makes 1 down and 6 more to go.
Earlier this year, I heard on the radio that George Strait would be coming to the USANA Amphitheatre. I was pretty stoked about it and decided I'd like to try and get tickets. However, I didn't know who I should go with until one day when I mentioned it to my friend Meggan. She's a big George Strait fan so we decided we should go for it. I got the tickets and the countdown began.
In the meantime, Michelle and I got together and we created our lists of 7 things. Of course I listed a George Strait concert. I guess putting something on the list that was a definite was kind of cheating, but it is my list and we didn't lay down any specific rules. So there! ;o)
July finally rolled around and Megg and I found ourselves on the way to Salt Lake for the concert. Needless to say, we were pretty stoked. We ate at the Spaghetti Factory in Trolley Square and then headed out to West Valley. Neither of us had been to the Amphitheatre before and quickly decided that it had to be located in the mountains since that's where the road was taking us. We ended up pretty close to the mountains but not quite in them. Anyway, our tickets were general admission lawn seats. They turned out not to be too bad and we began our wait for George. We sat through Julianne Hough (ick), Blake Shelton (not too bad), and then finally George came out. He sang for almost 2 hours and it was AWESOME!!! We sang along and had the time of our lives. It was so fun!!! It was definitely worth the long drive and wait in the scorching heat. Megg got to hear "I Can Still Make Cheyenne" and I loved "Amarillo By Morning" and "How 'bout Them Cowgirls". I was disappointed that he didn't sing "I Cross My Heart" but with over 50 number one hits, whats a person to do but make a few sacrifices? It's ok though, we still love you George. After a sweet encore, he left us and we made the long trek back home. It took us probably 2 more hours to even get away from the Amphitheater. That was probably the most rediculous part of the night. Well that, and the hordes of white trash drunk people. I guess that's what you get at a concert like that. We made it home in one piece and I am so glad I got to do it. I don't know if I'll ever do it again, I don't enjoy watching white trash drink themselves silly, but this was definitely a NIGHT TO REMEMBER!!! Thanks Meggan for being there to share it!

7 Things to do Before I'm 30

Once upon a time I came across a cheesy movie on Lifetime called "7 Things to do Before I'm 30". I watched it, and although it was filled to the hilt with cheesy-ness, I became inspired. So one night, my best friend Michelle and I came up with lists of our own. This blog is my way of documenting my journey to complete the list of 7 Things to do Before I'm 30.

Here's the list:

1. See a show on Broadway

2. Get my master's degree

3. Meet Glenn Beck

4. Use my passport

5. Go to a George Strait concert

6. Attend a session at a temple outside of Utah/Idaho

7. Read a biography of every U.S. president
